About Thomas
I will be graduating from Durham University in June 2020 with an MMath (Hons) Mathematics, where I am predicted a first class. In my third year, I received the John Crowther prize for exam performance from University College, Durham. I received 12A*s in my GCSE exams, two A*s in maths and further maths and an A in Physics at A Level. Having tutored voluntarily both at school and during my degree, I am looking to start privately tutoring students in GCSE Maths, A Level Maths and Further Maths and specific degree level topics.

I am a firm believer in problem-based learning for maths. Most of our sessions will involve working through problems together. In addition, I will set weekly homework (not too long, don't worry!) to aid in learning. I will mark these before our next session and we will discuss any problems together. In addition, after each session I will produce a short summary of our meeting, pointing out key facts and problems that the student should be aware of and needs to focus on. This would be my standard approach to lessons, however I think it is also appropriate to tailor lessons to suit the student's learning style and specific issues. Therefore, I am more than happy to work with the student so that they can get the most out of our sessions together. I am convinced everyone can do well in maths. I hope to instil a confidence in my tutees that maths isn't too bad and that it is certainly doable, hopefully even enjoyable!
