About Michael
Michael Morley was touring the country in National Tours and beginning on camera work by the age of nine. Since then he has been trained at Fiorello H. LaGuardia Highschool, Shakespeare & Company, and holds a B.F.A. in Theatre.
After graduating, he developed a passion for teaching. Michael believes it is never too young, or too late to start training - and has worked with people of all ages. He works diligently to create weekly lesson plans that are tailored specifically to the individual's strengths, weaknesses, and goals. While studying with Michael, a student can expect to learn; the inner workings of the business, strong script analysis skills, intensive scene/monologoue work, effective warm ups, and the tools needed to pursue this career. He is available for weekly lessons, Pre-screen/college audition coaching, and advanced coaching.
Michael takes class seriously, but finds the most important element to acting is joy. If you commit to the work, you will find the joy and the freedom in acting.
I love to help a student's confidence and knowledge of acting grow, and to give them the actual tools they will need to begin a thriving career. I love working with all different types of students, because though I am the teacher - there are always things for me to continuously learn and remind myself of as well.
I've always loved acting school environments. I love watching people grow confidence and begin to really find freedom in acting. I owe so much of who I am to the teachers I had. If I had to pinpoint it, this is probably what made me want to start teaching. I started directing and choreographing student showcases at Point Park University - which then lead to me teaching one-on-ones.
I've studied at Fiorello H. LaGuardia Highschool, Shakespeare & Company, Point Park University, and have learned many things from working as an actor. The degree I hold is a B.F.A. in Theatre.

I like to spend the first session really getting to know the student. Some examples I like to explore are; they're background, they're favorite things about themselves, their greatest fears - and also sharing my own. I find being this open allows us to create a safe environment to fail and play around. From this I begin to get an understanding of who the student is, their goals, and where they are in terms of training. I then come up with a list of characters we will explore. Some will be exactly like the student, and some will be the complete opposite. We grow outside our comfort zone, and often thrive in roles we never dreamed of playing. Each week I will create an entirely individualized lesson plan tailored to the student, that can vary from; basic terminology, monologue coaching, script analysis, understanding the business, and career plans.
I have worked with students ranging from ages 9-12, highschoolers, college students, non neurotypical students, and students with a learning disability.
The advice I would give to a student is, think about what qualities you want from a teacher. A teacher's ability to learn is just as important as their ability to teach. I am constantly learning things from my students as I teach them. Anyone who calls themself a "total expert" is a fraud, because there is always more to learn! My second piece of advice would be to always be open to try new things.
I was recently working with a student on a monologue as a character she did not see herself as, at all. In one lesson working on the piece, I watched her transform as an actress. We both felt the shift in energy as she made this breakthrough. Suddenly old habits from previous roles, and doubts she had about this current role were gone. Her confidence grew enormously. I enjoy working on a role the student does not expect, because often that is when we release into the training, and stop judging ourself. Oftentimes, we realize they had more in common with the character than they initially thought. That is why I love to teach acting, for those breakthroughs where a student realizes they can achieve more than they even imagined, and begin to stop limiting themselves.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Ask your teacher what their goals are for you. Does it align with your goals? Are they different goals in a new and exciting way, or do they seem to just really not understand you? Finally, ask how personal the lessons, coaching, and material are to who you are as an individual.

Details
Some acting teacher and coaching prices can go up to $80/hr. I have always found this slightly ridiculous. My price is $50/hr. Cancelation fee does apply. If you cancel less than 24 hours before the lesson you will still have to pay (unless a true emergency, of course.) I believe this price is more than worth it for the individualized lessons, and time spent planning, that the student will receive.
