About Maria
I am a 5th-year medical student at University College London (UCL). In 2022, I gained a first-class honours degree in Immunology, Infection and Cell Pathology at UCL. I was additionally awarded the David Katz Project Presentation Prize for my Neuroscience research project at the Francis Crick Institute. I have attended seven schools in four countries (Munich, Berkeley, Los Angeles, Tokyo, St Andrews), which gave me a wealth of experience with different educational systems. Prior to starting university, I worked for two years as a laboratory intern in one of the world-leading virology laboratories at the University of St Andrews, focusing on novel vaccines and antiviral treatments. I am bilingual (English and Russian), and also fluent in Japanese. I am a qualified Japanese-English translator and have worked as an online translator for many years. In my spare time, I enjoy playing tennis and had been a first-team captain of both the UCL medical women's team and the London inter-university teams.

I am truly passionate about teaching and have experience tutoring students of all ages and abilities. I am particularly skilled at helping students with maths and science (biology, chemistry and physics) concepts. Additionally, I have a wealth of experience with the medical school application process, with both BMAT and UCAT tests, having been accepted to multiple medical schools myself. Due to personal circumstances, I sat the UCAT and BMAT exams two years in a row, and achieved very competitive grades both times. I am also familiar with the different types of interviews that medical schools use (Oxbridge, London, Edinburgh, St Andrews) and I can help prepare for interviews (panel interviews, MMIs). I have previously tutored two high school students throughout their medical school applications which have been very successful (Oxford and London). I am offering UCAT/BMAT tuition from scratch, or for people who already have had some practice and need to improve certain areas through tips and tricks! Additionally, I can arrange mock interviews and prepare you through every stage of your medical application journey (exams, personal statement, interviews etc).
