About Stephan
I am an MBA graduated academic manager based at a private higher education institution in Johannesburg, South Africa. I am currently vested in quality assurance practices but have six years of experience in curriculum design, content development, lecturing, research supervision and academic mentoring. I have worked on several academic projects in a freelance capacity including assessments, moderation and content development for independent publishers. I am trained in business administration and education, but I am well-read on politics (including geopolitics), economics, visual and cultural studies (my undergrad).

Too often students achieve low marks because they are uncertain of what their facilitators "want". On the other hand, this anxiety prevents them from enjoying their studies and developing their own unique academic voice. My approach is to be completely supportive of the student on each part of their academic journey and to serve as an academic mentor and coach. The end goal is to develop crucial critical thinking and problem-solving skills (the A+ bonus will follow naturally). Therefore my approach is completely student-centred and facilitator-based. I use a blended style combining case study analysis with a degree of cross-field analysis (to provide enhanced context) and meta-analysis (to provide perspectives on how the knowledge functions as tools of power and persuasion). I use technology to interact and I am online permanently to assist on an ad-hoc basis.
