About Carmel
Hi, I have over 30 years experience as an educator and researcher in various education settings and with diverse learners. I have extensive experience in research methods/postgraduate supervision of honours, masters and PhD students/candidates. I have been a chief investigator on Australian national and international studies. I am included on teams for my expertise in teaching and learning, mixed methods research, including qualitative: co-design, interviews, focus groups, web based thematic analysis, and quantitative: survey design, path analysis with various software including SPSS, AMOS. I have award winning presentations and publications and have published widely in peer-reviewed journals and for the wider public/community, and been sought after for media engagement. My key areas of research interest and outputs have informed Australian legislation, policies, and practice, and include change models, digital ethics, youth well-being, bullying, new technologies for positive productive learning and life outcomes, and teaching and learning theories and pedagogies. I have a current teacher's registration (South Australia).

My core premise is to start where the learner is at, and then to understand their learning needs and preferences, and the task requirements, and then move forward from there. In a tailored, personalized approach, I employ teaching, learning and change theories to underpin my approach to teaching any topic. I bring together evidence-based practical approaches with examples and clear scaffolding to help learners build their understanding of the topic and then provide activities to reinforce their understanding to enable the learner to apply their skills and knowledge confidently.
