About John
I’ve been teaching for more than ten years and now combine teaching with my work as an actor, writer and theatre-maker. I love helping people discover that literature, writing and drama can be enjoyable, personal and alive rather than simply academic subjects to be mastered. My own work in theatre constantly reminds me how much we learn through curiosity, experimentation and play. I particularly enjoy helping students gain confidence, develop their individual voice and find new ways into material that may initially seem difficult or intimidating.

I tailor each lesson to the individual student, whether you are studying English Literature, developing your creative writing, working on a play or preparing a performance. My approach is practical, encouraging and imaginative, with plenty of discussion and active exploration rather than simply working through exercises. I can help with literary analysis, essay writing, creative writing, playwriting, acting, drama and theatre devising. I am particularly interested in helping students find their own voice and develop confidence in their ideas, whether for academic study, personal creativity or performance.
