About Adrija
I am extremely academically driven. Coming from a family where both of my parents are PhD's, I have been instilled with the same determination to make an impact on the world around me. I have experience tutoring with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library for the Charlotte Mecklenburg School District with whom I have spent about a year with. Before, I was a karate instructor for about 2 and a half years, teaching students of all ages (younger, my age, and even adults)! I am not a time waster. I like to get work done and get it out of the way, just like my students are excited to finish an assignment or understand a topic and move on. I am confident in my mathematics skills. I got a 99 on my Math 3 EOC in 8th grade, had a final grade of a 99 in Pre-Calculus, scoring a 98 on the exam, and received a 5 on my AP Statistics Exam (the highest score possible on an AP Exam) in 9th grade. I love math, and have been in love with it since I first met Algebra. I am confident with my skills, as are my teachers, my parents, and my students. It comes naturally to me, and I have really simple ways of remembering things that I like to share with my students. Overall, I have had experience tutoring math, with my 2nd grade teacher asking me to help the class and grade math papers, or getting perfect scores on almost every test. I am confident in my mathematics skills and can't wait to instill that same confidence in you!

My biggest thing with my students is making sure that they really understand what I am trying to say. I'm not here for the money. I tutor for free for community service as well. I'm here to help other students learn. My biggest thing that I try to instill within my students from the very moment I start working with them is that asking the same question twice is completely ok. I've known so many students who don't ask again unless their prompted, but as a tutor, it is my main job to make sure they understand what I am saying. As for structure of my lessons, I like to start off with a review of our last class. So let's say we worked on finding the sine of an angle given a triangle. I'll start out with a warmup relating to that, just to get the student back into the world of math. I then like to work through some problems with my students, and have them make their own. When students create their own problems and then solve them, it helps me understand how well they grasped a concept. After all, if you don't understand something, you probably can't write a math problem. I do this some of my younger students that I teach at the library and it works really well and keeps them engaged. Also, I'm really friendly. I love children, whether they are younger, older, or the same age as me. I just love to help people. I try to make the tutoring sessions a little bit more personal so that the students learn to enjoy them and look forward to them. It helps them learn easier as well. I like to make problems related to their situations, have discussions with them, ask them questions, the whole deal! Like I said, I love people. That being said, I am not trying to waste anyone's time, so I like to incorporate it into my teaching. I think what sets me apart as a tutor is my willingness to go beyond tutoring. I've found that really trying to form connections and teach lovingly helps students remember things. Let's say I say something funny or play a song to help someone remember something. I think that these techniques are a lot more advantageous when it comes to learning things quickly and efficiently. Academics is a very important part of my life and I take it very seriously. I am a straight A+ student and hope, that with my sessions, my students will be as well. My lessons really apply for anyone from kindergarten to high school. I'm a sophomore in high school as of now and the highest level math I choose to teach is Precalculus since I am taking Calculus this upcoming school year (in 10th grade). Although, I prefer teaching older students (5th grade and older), I am accepting of all that need my help! I have worked with students previously from 1st grade all the way up to 5th.
