About Mariska
I have a great love for languages and am passionate about making languages accessible to all students. I am a creative thinker who believes that learning will always be best through engaging and exciting approaches.
I have a Bachelor's degree in Language and Literature Studies, as well as a Bachelor of honors degree in Afrikaans/Dutch.
I have experience working as an Arts and Entertainment journalist, as well as a text editor and translator. I was the main editor of a short story and poetry anthology which was published in 2023. I have written various articles and reviews for publication, as well as academic research.
I worked as the subject group assistant for the NWU School of Creative Writing which allowed me to work with students on various levels. I also specialized in Afrikaans contemporary literature and social media poetry.

I believe that languages should be approached at an easy and simple pace to be accessible to all students. I focus on language skills that can be used in both academic and real-life spheres. I approach literature and creative writing on a practical-based level through basic rule-of-thumb blueprints.
My lessons will be relaxed and informal to ensure that complex matters do not remain intimidating. I use engaging conversations, and interactive exercises, and offer encouraging and supportive feedback.
I am proficient in both Afrikaans and English. I offer linguistic tutoring, such as punctuation and grammar, as well as literature and creative writing tutoring.
I teach students on all levels to help them become fluent and proficient in all things language and literature.
