About Bill

I am a professional academic holding a PhD in Philosophy from a leading Italian university, alongside an MLitt (Distinction) from the University of St Andrews. During my time at St Andrews, I gained direct higher education teaching experience as a module tutor for undergraduate students. In tandem with my core research background, I have over 350 hours of experience instructing English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and EFL at university level and one-to-one levels. Having navigated both Continental and British higher education frameworks, I possess a unique specialism: assisting students in translating complex conceptual thoughts into rigorous, structurally precise academic English.

Areas of Expertise

Rather than offering passive proofreading, I provide structured structural analysis based directly on UK university grading rubrics, leveraging my firsthand experience as an evaluator and researcher.

My practice focuses on four distinct areas:

Dissertation and Thesis Architecture: Drawing on my own successful navigation of the highest postgraduate tiers (PhD and MLitt with Distinction), I provide systematic guidance on structural logic, literature reviews, and advanced formatting for postgraduate and undergraduate research.

Academic Essay Optimisation: Having actively taught and evaluated undergraduate modules at St Andrews, I know exactly what university examiners look for. I diagnose structural errors to elevate argumentative clarity, prose flow, and critical academic register from a 2:1 to a First-Class standard.

International Scholar Support (EAP): Utilising over 350 hours of university-level EFL instruction, I provide tailored writing coaching for non-native English speakers who understand their subject matter but need to bridge the gap between English fluency and upper-tier university prose.

A-Level Philosophy and RE: As a doctoral-level subject specialist, I translate complex philosophical concepts into accessible, exam-focused frameworks for advanced pupils aiming for top marks or preparing for Oxbridge and St Andrews entrance interviews.

My Approach and Teaching Methodology:

My approach is modelled directly on the rigorous tutorial system utilised at top-tier British universities. I do not provide passive proofreading or generic commentary. Instead, I operate as an academic strategist, teaching you how to systematically construct arguments, isolate structural flaws, and satisfy the precise criteria of your university's grading rubric.

For international scholars and non-native English speakers, I integrate my 350+ hours of university-level English for Academic Purposes (EAP) experience. We work collaboratively to elevate complex conceptual thoughts into flawless, high-level academic prose, ensuring your writing reflects the true calibre of your ideas.

Structure and Length of Lessons:

To maintain academic rigour without causing cognitive fatigue, standard lessons are structured at 60 minutes. Every session is highly focused and goal-oriented: we unpack an essay brief, map out a dissertation outline, or dismantle a specific section of your draft. Longer blocks can be arranged during intensive thesis submission periods if required.
