About Graeme
The best advice and support received by students is often not from their teacher or someone who sat a different exam 20 years ago. Much of the time, this advice comes from someone who knows what the student is going through and sat the very same qualifications. I would like to be the person to whom younger students may go to if they feel apprehensive about a topic or an exam. I feel my experience completing the same courses only a couple of years ago can be of great comfort to a student, as I am someone who can see things from their point of view and help guide them to being more confident with a peer-peer explanation. Being a student myself, I like to believe that students understand and recognise that I too am growing and learning with them, as opposed to being an intimidating, omniscient figure.

Hello! My name is Graeme (he/him), and I am currently in my first year at the University of St Andrews, studying MChem Chemistry with French! I would love to impart my love of chemistry, chemical biology, and biochemistry to the next generation of students who are sitting exams that I myself sat not so long ago. In addition to a notable academic record, I regularly partook in classroom volunteering opportunities, providing support to teachers in junior-school classes throughout secondary school. I have also taken part in providing peer-peer-supported study sessions in secondary school. My teaching approach is student-focused. I will encourage students to work on topics requiring reinforcement by re-explaining concepts in a peer-peer, friendly manner; completing past paper questions, providing support where necessary while also allowing for independent completion to build confidence; providing advice on exam strategy and how to tackle course content and studying. Lessons typically last no longer than an hour, unless otherwise arranged with the student.

Graeme was very patient and good at explaining chemical terms and concepts to me and I was able to boost my grade in chemistry class (National 5). His help was invaluable and set up a really good basis for me doing Higher :)
