About David
I'm from Cali, Colombia and I'm currently finishing my graduate project in anthropology in the Universidad del Cauca.
I've worked as editor and translator (English - Spanish) fore more than four years, as a Spanish and Colombian Sign Language teacher for more than two and I'm currently working as a professional tourist guide in my natal city.
I'm heartfelt, welcoming, respectful and enthusiastic.

People often think of language as something they can abstract from reality and learn as ideas. Thus, you see language institutes rating the 'competence' of a language, as if communication could be rated. Language is alive through the speakers and its purpose is social interaction, not tests.
Learning a new language also opens a new understanding of the world, as language is created to name it. In Spanish, for example, most beings have a male and female configuration and that affects the way we (the speakers) perceive the world.
My lessons begin by giving you an overview of the geographical and social context of Spanish speakers, identifying your purpose and linking an achievable work plan to it. I do not condemn Spanglish nor "missing" the 'native' accent, since it's your idea that needs to get across, not your perfect pitch pronunciation. Spanish, unlike other languages (like Mandarin) doesn't rely on pronunciation, but on building sentences with proper meaning.
We will be reviewing literature, movies, videos and news, not your typical worksheet exercises.
My lessons are open for everyone, regardless of your background. The only requirement is determination and persistence.
