About Nilana
I am currently a Law student at the University of Southampton and I would not have made it this far if it wasn't for all the extra help my wonderful tutors provided me with. Hence, my personal motivation for wanting to tutor and aid students to go as far as they can in their academic journey. Overall, my teaching is very hands-on and quite flexible. In other words, I work alongside students to prevent adding more onto their plate, reducing their stress regarding studying. The purpose of tutoring is to boost students' academic capabilities so I welcome (and highly encourage) students to bring any doubts or misconceptions they have had at school to lessons to discuss. There can be a lot of stigma surrounding getting extra help so one of the first things I aim to do always with students is to ensure a comfortable and safe learning space. This will then allow as much progress and ambition as possible. Furthermore, it will boost the students' confidence (an often overlooked subject) which will consequently allow for a smoother exam performance.

Specialty: English Language Teaching Methodology: Guiding students through a hands-on approach, ensuring better grades and confidence. E.g., to encourage deeper analysis "quotation exploding" is followed. Students pick quotations and draw inferences for each part (punctuation and word types) of the quotation. Students then build the practice of going beyond surface-level analysis. Typical length of a lesson: 1 hour Qualifications: Grades 7-9 for GCSEs, A*AC at A-Levels Experience as a Tutor: 2 years (1 year and 4 months during A-Levels; 8 months as an Online Tutor on MyTutor. I can teach for 11+, Year 7, Year 8, Year 9 and GCSE.
