About Scarlett
I am currently studying Law at AUT and have completed NCEA Levels 1-3 as well as University Entrance.
Law studies involve a strong focus on reading, written analysis, interpretation, research and constructing clear, well-supported arguments, which are skills that I bring into my English tutoring.
I also have experience supervising students receiving Special Assessment Conditions (SAC) during NCEA internal and external assessments. I have developed a patient and supportive approach when working with students who may need additional time, someone to be a reader/writer for them, reassurance, or a different way of having something explained.
I understand that English can sometimes feel difficult or overwhelming, particularly when it comes to essays, unfamiliar texts and assessments. My aim is to create a relaxed and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes while they improve.
I am reliable, organized and will always come to lessons prepared. I want students to leave each session with a clearer understanding of what they are working on, practical strategies they can use independently, and greater confidence in their English ability.

My approach to tutoring is supportive, practical and focused on the individual student. After the first lesson, I make a lesson plan and curriculum designed specifically for the student.
I like to first identify what the student is finding difficult and then work through it step by step.
I help guide students to understand how to structure their ideas, improve their writing and recognize what a question is actually asking them to do.
For English, lessons can include planning essays, improving paragraph structure, developing arguments, analyzing and interpreting texts, creative writing, grammar and preparing for assessments or exams. I can also work through current schoolwork with students and use teacher feedback to identify areas they can improve.
Lessons are typically 60 minutes and are held online through Zoom. However, the lesson can be adjusted depending on the student's needs and what they are working towards.

I have experience supervising and helping secondary students receiving SAC support during NCEA internal and external assessments, which has given me experience working with students who may need additional support or a calmer, more individual approach.
My lessons are best suited to secondary school students, particularly Years 7-13 and students completing NCEA Levels 1-3. I aim to create a relaxed environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and can build both their skills and confidence in English.
