About Marie-Therese (MT)
I have acted on stage for 25 years. Won Best Actor at Queensland Theatre Awards. Taught in New York. Many years writing scripts, teaching young actors stagecraft and character development. I have a degree in Arts and Performance and am a trained teacher. I’ve worked professionally for clubs, festivals including Brisbane Festival, Nambour Parade, Rockhampton City Mall, Gold Coast Miami dance festival, and most community theatres in Qld. I started with Qld Musical Theatre.

I approach the class starting with self-awareness and using energy in voice and physical expression. Becoming aware of our own feelings and getting into another character is about focus and imagination. Tapping into our imagination requires physical and psychological clarity to enable a robust and sensitive engagement with our character. We relate to other characters with our emotional brain, and we become good actors when we can connect with another with insight. When we connect to the authors' feelings and insights, we can transform our own feelings into something that tells a story, other than our own. True acting requires a deep insight into oneself, while placing ourselves into the realm and circumstances of another. To become a good speaker, one must remove any disruptions to 'state of mind'. I teach exercises to clear the mind and attitudes to adopt when making speeches or videos for presentation. Focus is the key. I also polish up the content for flow and ease of listening. The musical side of performance incorporates these same methods but are felt through voice, in greater degrees than in physicality.
