About RACHEL
I am a hand-knitting pattern designer, and winner of the 2015 Sirdar Knit Now Designer of the Year award.
I have almost 50 years of experience in hand-knitting and crochet (including Irish crochet), and have been designing for 10 years. My particular skill is in colourwork - Fair Isle and intarsia - but I also have experience in Aran-style and lace knitting. I have advanced skills in pattern grading and preparation for publication, including knowledge of many online markets for patterns.

I have a hands-on, practical methodology, using multiple styles of knitting, including English or British throwing and flicking, Irish Cottage or Lever style, supported techniques such as belt, pad, and pit-knitting, and Continental techniques, and two-handed Fair Isle knitting.
My design techniques are:
* visual, working from a schematic and swatch
* computer-based, using MS Excel spreadsheets to do the heavy lifting of grading.
