About Habiba

Having studied biochemistry at Imperial College London (and recently graduated from Oxford) I have been teaching in person and over Zoom for about 7 years now and have honed and developed tactics to maximise online lesson productivity to levels much higher than with face-to-face lessons. I received A*s in both chemistry and biology at A level (high school leaving) and was awarded the Pearson High Achievers certificate for a very high grade in A level Chemistry. As well as teaching, I have sat on the board of directors of a registered women’s education startup, and am an international speaker in areas including science and policy for young people.

About the lesson

My research into positive education is the foundation to my lessons. I primarily focus on making my lessons enjoyable and interesting, with an understanding-based approach (no rote-learning!) By responding to the needs and moods of my students on a day-to-day basis, I tweak the methods I use in each session. While speaking over Skype or Zoom and using a whiteboard for diagrams and exercises, I communicate written information over a shared Google Drive folder which leaves students with completed, bespoke notes ready for revision after our session. As well as that, I send worksheets to complete and questions that we can complete together, and recommend revision tactics backed by research to be the most effective study tools. I believe that chemistry and biology learning should be discussion based initially to help us use logic and reasoning to draw conclusions, these are processes in the brain which solidify memory and understanding and give you a really good basis to learn exam technique with the correct information.
