I’ve worked on some of the most challenging and exciting projects at leading companies such as PlaySide Studios, EA Games, and CSIRO, and now I want to teach others the skills needed to thrive in the world of game programming.

My approach to tutoring is highly practical, focusing on building a strong foundation in game programming concepts while working on real-world projects. I believe in hands-on learning, where students not only understand the theory behind game development but also apply it to actual coding and project work. My methodology involves breaking down complex problems into manageable steps, encouraging problem-solving, and teaching students how to approach challenges logically.
I use a mix of teaching techniques, including:
Project-based learning: Students work on their own game projects, learning key concepts like game mechanics, object-oriented programming, and system architecture as they go.
Live coding sessions: I demonstrate coding techniques in Unity or Unreal Engine, showing students how to implement game features, debug code, and optimize performance in real-time.
Feedback and iteration: Students regularly receive constructive feedback on their work, helping them refine their skills and develop a professional mindset toward iterative development.
Mentorship: I aim to foster independent thinking and creativity by encouraging students to explore their own game ideas and push the boundaries of what they can achieve.

Each lesson typically lasts 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the depth of the topic and the student’s needs. This length allows for a thorough explanation of concepts, practical application, and time to answer questions or troubleshoot code issues.

I have 25+ years of professional experience in game development, having worked with major studios like PlaySide Studios and EA Games and held senior roles, including Head of Engineering. My expertise spans a wide range of game technologies, including Unity, Unreal Engine, C#, and .NET development. I've led engineering teams in creating cutting-edge games across multiple platforms and have a deep understanding of modern game design principles, system architecture, and performance optimization.
I have also mentored junior developers and engineers throughout my career, helping them grow from beginners to professionals, which makes me uniquely qualified to teach aspiring game developers.
