About Hamit
As a portrait artist, I paint invisible subjects becoming screens to reflect the visible events that affect my family members in the aftermath of war. I am a full-time artist living and working in London. I am originally from Cyprus. I have been painting since I was 8. Over the years, I taught in high schools and universities. In addition, I hosted private classes for young and mature individual artists. I hold an MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art, and a BA degree in Fine Art from the University of Hertfordshire. I have exhibited internationally and my work has been featured in a number of group exhibitions including galleries like the Saatchi. My studio is based in Chelsea, this is where I will be hosting the classes. I find teaching art challenging (because what is art and how can you teach it?) I think it is crucial to work with young professionals because it is always exciting and enjoyable to meet new people and see how they progress. Everyone has a different way of painting and expressing themselves which I find very inspiring.

My approach is fun! I want my students to feel satisfied with the progress they make after just a few lessons. The aim is to learn and develop your technical skills. As I always say: 'You need to know the rules in order to break them!' But it does not stop here... The classes are interactive, encouraging and inspiring, while maximising skills, and unravelling the mysteries of creative art making. I am flexible and greatly understanding with my teaching methods depending on the artist's level. The ideal lesson usually starts with drawing natural objects such as fruits, flowers, vessels like baskets/bowls or photographs of animals and slowly progress to still lifes and the human figure including portraiture which is the most advanced. I can provide advice with writing creative material like essays, construction of a portfolio/exhibition, delivering professional talks and last but not least give market tricks to survive in the competitive industry. I recommend at least 2 hours of teaching per lesson. I can go up to 3-5 hours if the artist is willing to work for longer. Can't wait to work with you!

Perfect! Hamit has been a great tutor to our 7year old who loves his weekly lessons. I find Hamit very easy and polite to deal with. He communicates well and clearly and I'd highly recommend him to others looking for an art tutor-adults and children!
