About Laurie

I have 7 years of teaching and tutoring experience, as well as 3 years in middle leadership. I have taught a diverse range of students over this time and have won a national award for pupil progress in my classes. My experience as an examiner has helped me enormously in teaching exam technique across both GCSE and A Level.

Geography, Sociology and the Humanities captured my interest as I went through GCSE and A Level. These subjects opened the world up to me, taught me to ask questions and think critically about the answers readily available. These questions, topics and ways of looking at the world still fascinate me today. My lessons, therefore, aim to inspire an interest in the subject and the world around you as much as they aim to get you through your exams.

I have been teaching in UK State schools and internationally for 7 years. As well as this I am experienced in private tuition. I have a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), National Professional Qualification in Leading Teacher Development (NPQLTD), and experience marking for multiple exam boards. I have worked in curriculum design, pastoral middle leadership and, of course, as a classroom teacher.

Our initial session will establish how I can best help you, whether this is exam technique, closing gaps in content, or helping you find the joy in the subject again. After this, we will work together to help you develop your skills in the subject. My approach is grounded in evidence-based teaching, as well as years of experience in making all elements of the subject memorable and relatable.

Lessons are a minimum of 50 minutes, though I am able to teach for longer if you would prefer. I am able to tutor from KS3-KS5.

I look forward to working with you.
