About Riley

Hi, I’m Riley. I’m an Aerospace Engineering graduate from UC Berkeley, going to work at Boeing. I bring both strong academic training and real-world problem-solving experience into my tutoring.

I take professionalism seriously. I am reliable, prepared, and structured in every session. I create clear lesson plans, track progress, and adjust based on each student’s needs.

I have been tutoring for years, starting with my younger sister and continuing with other students, and I understand how important patience and consistency are. Students can expect a calm, supportive environment, clear explanations, and steady improvement.

My goal is to build confidence, strengthen understanding, and help students succeed.

Hi, I’m Riley. I know what it feels like to sit in a class and think, “Everyone else seems to get this… why don’t I?” I’ve been there. Even as an engineering student, I’ve had moments where something just didn’t click right away and what made the difference wasn’t intelligence. It was having someone patient enough to explain it differently.

That’s exactly the kind of tutor I aim to be.

My Teaching Approach
My teaching style is built on patience, encouragement, and zero judgment. I truly believe no one is “bad at math” or “just not a physics person.” Sometimes concepts just need to be explained in a different way or more than once and that’s completely okay.

I focus on:
• Slowing down when needed

• Breaking problems into smaller, understandable pieces

• Re-explaining concepts in multiple ways until they click

• Building confidence alongside skills

I never rush students, and I never make them feel embarrassed for asking questions. Questions are how you learn.
I’ve been tutoring my younger sister for years, along with other students, and that experience has shaped how I teach. I’ve seen firsthand how much confidence grows when someone feels supported instead of pressured.

What a Typical Lesson Looks Like
A typical session feels collaborative and calm.
1. We start with what feels confusing or overwhelming.
2. I walk through the concept step-by-step, explaining the reasoning behind each move.
3. We solve problems together.
4. Then I slowly shift responsibility to the student while staying right there for support.
5. We end with a recap so they leave feeling clear.

If something doesn’t make sense, we try a different angle. There is always another way to explain it.

What Sets Me Apart
What sets me apart isn’t just my academic background.
Because I’ve struggled with difficult material before, I understand the frustration that can come with it. I don’t expect students to “just get it.” I expect them to try, and I meet them with patience every single time.
I care a lot about helping students feel safe asking questions. Confidence is just as important as content mastery, and once confidence builds, improvement follows naturally.
