About Cem
I was born and raised in İzmir, regarded as the chess capital of Turkey. Learning the game at age six, I quickly began competing in and winning regional youth tournaments (U-9, U-11). In 2016, I joined the newly founded Çeşme Belediyespor, spending five seasons with the squad and helping secure promotion to the Turkish Chess First League while consistently earning trophies in individual events.
Between 2023 and 2025, I managed the METU Chess Club as a board member. During this period, I contributed analytical articles to the club’s magazine (Last Square), provided live broadcast commentary for major regional events, and led volunteer outreach workshops in rural schools. In 2025, I joined Fenerbahçe Sports Schools as a dedicated chess coach, focusing on structured, engaging instruction for young beginners.

My approach to chess is firstly to determine the weaknesses of the player. It can be understood by analysing recent games clearly. Once the drawbacks of one's game are identified, the next step is to fix those. I have techniques that I developed myself during my years of work with different players from all ages, levels and mentalities.
My 60 minutes lesson features:
. Tactical pattern recognition & Chess board vision drill
My lesson blends classical strategy with the high-impact tactical training principles outlined in Michael de la Maza’s Rapid Chess Improvement. We will be focusing on subconscious pattern recognition, disciplined calculation, and board vision.
. CCT & Pressure method
Over 90% of games are lost or won by tactics and a strong player must learn how to stand in those breakthrough points. With this method, my aim is to develop a systematic way to respond to our opponent's every move. By controlling the moves of Check, Capture and Threat; not only will we eliminate one-move blunders, we will also understand the most forcing moves for us and also our opponent. The Pressure method is generally about loose pieces and defining them in the game. We will be combining the CCT and Pressurizing method in order to make our opponent feel our breath on their neck with every move.
. Deep game analysis & Root Cause Diagnosis
Analysing our casual or tournament games with strong chess engines can be complicated sometimes since those giants give us just 20 moves of analysis without any comment. Instead, I will analyse your game with an intention to develop an understanding of the game's nature, to identify the root causes of mistakes—whether a tactical oversight, time pressure, or a flawed strategic plan rather than concrete moves. Ultimately, in each game, you will be ready to understand the game better and better.
. Practical Application & Homework
I will provide curated take-home studies that cover practice positions or openings tailored to the day's motif with real-time feedback. I also provide personalised puzzle sets and tactical drills designed for short, daily spaced practice between our weekly sessions.
