About Emily
Bonjour! I’m Emily, a bilingual French-English tutor with a lifelong love of the French language, culture, and literature. I was raised in France until the age of 12, and still spend every summer immersed in French life with my family and grandparents. Growing up between two cultures has given me a deep understanding of both languages — and a passion for helping others bridge that gap too. I’ve been tutoring French for over 3 years, working with students of all ages and abilities. I’m particularly passionate about making French feel alive and accessible, whether you're preparing for exams, learning for fun, or wanting to deepen your understanding of French culture. Outside of tutoring, I’m also a pianist and a lover of French music, I ADORE French composers like Debussy and Satie. I also have a deep love of French literature… I’ve read the entire works of Proust (yes, really!), and my favourite author ever is Amélie Nothomb (hopefully we can get you reading her books in no time!) Learning French should be joyful, encouraging, and tailored to each student’s unique goals. I aim to create a supportive, engaging environment where you can build confidence, curiosity, and fluency at your own pace.

Learning French (or any language for that matter) should be fun, engaging, and tailored to what excites you, whether that’s navigating a conversation, passing an exam, or diving into the rich world of French literature and culture!! Because I grew up in France until I was 12 and still spend every summer with my French family, I teach French as a living, breathing language, not just textbook exercises. My lessons include conversation practice, vocabulary building, grammar explained in simple terms, and lots of cultural insights. I can also weave in French literature (yes, I’ve read all of Proust!) for more advanced learners who want to explore the language at a deeper level. Lessons are usually 60 minutes but I can adapt to longer or shorter sessions depending on your goals. I’m bilingual in French and English, with 3 years of experience tutoring French at university to a range of ages and abilities. Whether you're a complete beginner, preparing for GCSE/A level exams, wanting to brush up for a holiday, or aiming to read French literature without ‘Google Translate’, my lessons are for all levels and ages. I’ll meet you where you’re at, and we’ll build your confidence together!

I am currently studying at UCL and wanted to complete my grade 8 piano but no longer had the support from my previous sixth form. Emily very helpfully stepped up and tutored me weekly, sometimes more! She is very flexible and was willing to accommodate for my time. She is so super lovely and smiley and knows her stuff!! I couldn’t have asked for a better teacher.
Emily taught me piano a couple of years ago when I was just starting my grade 2, and I got a Distinction!! I found the grade 1 exam really stressful but we broke grade 2 down into sections and worked on each one until I felt really confident going into that exam hall!
Emily helped me soooo much leading up to my GCSEs. She helped me become so confident when playing piano which I never thought would happen. I am so incredibly grateful for how understanding and patient she was with me as my tutor and I genuinely recommend her for anyone who needs a lot or a little help with Piano.
