About Marques
I’m a biology-transfer student at Southwestern College, pursuing a future career in neurobiology and neuroscience. I’m passionate about understanding how living systems work, especially the brain, neurons, consciousness, and the biological processes that make life possible.
I graduated high school with an all-A academic record and earned the California Golden State Seal Merit Diploma. I’m also an independent researcher and the author of Substratism, a published neurophilosophy paper exploring consciousness and personal identity.
My experience includes peer mentoring, leading educational projects, and helping others improve their understanding and communication skills. Through the SBCS EXCEL program, I coached peers through eight mock interviews and helped lead three successful team projects.
I believe a good tutor should be patient, encouraging, knowledgeable, and adaptable. I take learning seriously, but I also want students to feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes.
My goal is to help students become more confident, independent learners who genuinely understand biology and introductory neuroscience—not simply memorize information for an exam.

My biology and introductory neuroscience lessons are designed to make complex scientific concepts easier to understand, remember, and apply. As a biology-transfer student at Southwestern College and an independent neurophilosophy researcher, I enjoy helping students build confidence in science through clear explanations, personalized guidance, and active learning.
My teaching approach begins by identifying what you already understand and where you need additional help. I then break difficult topics into manageable steps using examples, diagrams, practice questions, active recall, and spaced repetition.
I can help with general biology, cell biology fundamentals, basic genetics, the structure and function of neurons, the nervous system, introductory neuroscience, and study strategies.
Each lesson is tailored to your goals, whether you’re preparing for an exam, reviewing class material, or exploring neuroscience out of personal interest. I encourage questions, explain ideas in different ways, and check your understanding throughout the lesson.
My goal is not simply to help you memorize information, but to help you develop the scientific reasoning skills needed to understand it independently.
