About John
Starting with a diagnostic level test helps us build the plan that fits your specific pace. While it might seem daunting, we will immediately dive into vocabulary building and everyday phrases for beginners. My 8 years of experience ensures that travel French and interview preparation stay practical rather than purely theoretical.
I utilise my MMus Voice training to help you master pronunciation, ensuring that your intonation sounds natural. We spend time on verb conjugation and idioms to ensure you can actually use the language in real-world scenarios.
It is never about memorising lists, but about understanding how the language lives. You will leave with a stronger grasp of conversational fluency than you arrived with. Confidence is the result of structured practice.

Teaching provides the perfect outlet to share the linguistic precision I honed at Cambridge alongside my conservatoire training. My work focuses on absolute beginners, intermediate learners, and those prioritising conversational fluency. After 8 years of experience in this field, I find that clarity remains the most vital tool for any student.
Having taught over 200 students, I appreciate how varied individual learning styles can be. My path transitioned from academic linguistics to vocal performance, which informs how I approach syntax and sound production. I often find myself balancing the strict rules of grammar with the fluid reality of spoken language.
Outside of the classroom, I am a dedicated advocate for women in the UK classical music scene. I enjoy seeing my students gain real confidence as they navigate new linguistic landscapes.
