About Ava
From Brighton, I am now based in London. I graduated from Central Saint Martins with a 1st Class Honours in BA Graphic Communication Design. I now work as a freelance designer, illustrator and HE teaching assistant.
As a workshop facilitator, I have experience across age groups planning and running sessions. Initially teaching art to children (4 to 16 years old) at a hotel in Italy; I went on to design workshops during my degree on British Sign Language, decolonising statues and interacting with museum objects; before facilitating workshops on conditional design, time and mapping for prospective students at Central Saint Martins. Last year, in my role as Changemaker, I designed and led sessions for both faculty and students on themes of care and exchange, eventually publishing our research in a zine on collaboration in arts education.
I am passionate about inclusivity and have a Level 2 Signature Qualification in British Sign Language (BSL). Having critically analysed the decline in arts accessibility for D/deaf people during my EPQ, I’m especially motivated to expand access to art and historical knowledge for marginalised communities.

As a skilled tutor and workshop host, I have experience developing students' confidence and skills in graphic design. I currently work at Central Saint Martins as a Teaching and Studio Assistant on BA + MA Graphic Communication Design, as well as MA Communicating Complexity.
My methodology is based on Dialogic pedagogy, in which my students and I have purposeful, exploratory discussions to develop their projects. I offer structured or student-led lessons focused on their studies, and we will follow the GCSE, BTEC, or A-level curriculum where relevant. At the end of every session, we finish with an action plan with clear direction.
From colour and typographic theory, to the Adobe Creative Cloud, preparing portfolios for applications, executing design ideas, conceptual development or writing and research for a dissertation/critical report.
These one-to-one sessions aim to offer a contrast to fast-paced hierarchical lessons. I have lived experience working with Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND), so we can adapt the learning to work with the individual.
