About Wayne
I have been teaching both in Canada and in China for over 25 years. I really enjoy talking with students and getting to know them. In my class, I try to create a warm environment and encourage students to do their best and help them develop confidence. Writing, reading and math skills are learned and take time to develop. I believe that with continual practice everyone improves over time. While teaching I help students to make connections to the real world and how it applies to their lives. When we are young it is hard to see how certain classes can help us in our lives. I remember in high school discussing with my friends how some classes didn't seem that important. It isn't until you are older that you start to make these connections. However, one can start to make them earlier with the help of a teacher or mentor. At the same time I can say that I have learned lots of things while talking to students.

My teaching philosophy revolves around the belief in the power of integrating text literacy with language literacy and daily applications. I understand the importance of balancing reading and written work with a student-led activities approach, making learning as authentic and engaging as possible. To achieve this, I consistently try to utilize authentic materials in the classroom to immerse students in real-life language situations.
In my teaching practice, I am dedicated to creating versatile materials that cater to various learning styles. These materials encourage individual, group, and whole-class participation, fostering a collaborative learning environment. I believe in the value of pair-work and group activities to enable students to apply their emerging language skills, learn from one another, and develop their communication abilities.
I teach grade 1 to grade 7 students. I am able to develop a good rapport with students and feel students respond well to my instruction.
