About Katarina
I first attended a yoga class while at university in the early 2000s in Dublin, Ireland. It was not pretty. I could not touch my toes and my hamstrings were killing me. The next day I had pain in muscles I had not previously been aware I had. But somehow I felt the urge to go back. There was something about feeling embodied, feeling at peace in my body and focusing on my breath, which made me feel calm and reinvigorated in equal measures. Later, I was lucky to be introduced to the Ashtanga system of yoga, which enabled me to practice anywhere (in Ashtanga, you memorise set sequences and practice from memory). This came in handy as I travelled the world extensively: born in Sweden, I lived in Ireland, Niger (West Africa), Bangladesh, spent time travelling in South East Asia, and finally landed in Australia, where I have been based since 2008.
Since 2010, I have practised at the Ashtanga Yoga Centre of Melbourne, where I now also teach. While remaining true in spirit to the practice, I like to also bring a lightness and humour to my classes. I often meet new students who feel a little intimated walking in to class, and I try to make everyone comfortable and understand that yoga is for everyone, no matter who you are, what you look like, feel like, or whether you can touch your toes or not! So long as you can breathe, you can do yoga! And you will feel better for it.

I have been practising yoga for 20+ years and have been teaching beginners and intermediate students for the past four years (in studio and online).
As a practioner and teacher I am very passionate about the Ashtanga system, as it encompasses all the elements of yogic living, including asanas (postures), pranayama (breathwork) and meditation.
Yoga is for everyone, and you do not have to be flexible to start yoga! All you need is a bit of humility, perseverance and humour and a will to improve yourself both physically, mentally and perhaps spiritually.
