About Judy
For me, teaching has never been just a job—it is a true passion rooted in a deep love for connecting with people. There is nothing I find more rewarding than sharing my knowledge, helping others learn, and walking side-by-side with them as they grow. I treat their journey as my own; I love watching their progression, celebrating their improvements, and when they finally reach their goals, I feel like I have reached them right along with them.
I know firsthand how much courage it takes to push for that next level. My own life journey has taken me all over the world, and I have had the wonderful privilege of living and working in Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, Sweden, and now here in the UK. Along the way, I have personally studied five different languages.
Because of this, I know exactly what it feels like to sit in the student's chair. I understand the early excitement, the hidden worries, the occasional discouragement of hitting a plateau, and that ultimate thrill of finally using new skills to connect with others in the real world.
Outside of the academic world, I am a huge animal lover and absolutely love exploring the outdoors—whether I am out for a refreshing jog, walking in nature, discovering delicious new foods, or learning about different cultures and countries. I love bringing these real-world passions into my sessions, turning lessons into genuine, engaging conversations where students and I can truly connect as human beings.

My Approach to Tutoring & Class Structure
Hello! My name is Judy. I believe that the best learning happens when you feel completely relaxed, supported, and at ease. Learning a language or preparing for a big exam can feel overwhelming. My goal is to create a welcoming space where mistakes are viewed as steps towards growth, and where you always feel comfortable being yourself.
My Techniques & Teaching Methodology
My teaching style is collaborative, interactive, and tailored to who you are as an individual. I don't just hand you a textbook; we look at the language together through methods that keep you feeling supported.
Understanding Your Goals
In our very first session, we'll take time to talk about exactly what you need and what you would like to achieve in English. We'll look at your current English level together in a relaxed, zero-pressure way so we can map out a clear path to your goals.
Encouraging, Step-by-Step Guidance
I use a "scaffolding" technique. This means we break down big skills—like structuring a complex academic essay or speaking naturally under exam conditions—into small, friendly, and manageable pieces.
Kind, Supportive Feedback
You will always get constructive and supportive feedback. I treat our lessons with respect, helping you polish your writing and speaking while celebrating your progress every step of the way.
Typical Length of a Lesson
To give us plenty of time to connect and learn without feeling rushed, my standard lessons are 60 minutes long. If you are preparing for an exam deadline or working through an essay draft, we can easily arrange 90-minute or 2-hour sessions to fit your schedule and comfort.
My Qualifications & Experience
While our classes will feel friendly and conversational, they are backed by a deep, professional foundation in the English language. I hold a Bachelor (B.Ed) and a Master of Education (M.Ed) as well as a specialised TESL certificate. I also have years of experience teaching academic and professional English in diverse international settings. This background means I understand the unique hurdles of language learning and know exactly how to guide you with patience, empathy, and expertise.
