About Emily
I am currently studying for my PhD at the University of Edinburgh after completing my MChem in Chemistry at the University of Manchester. I love chemistry because of its role as the central science; it can tie in with a vast range of disciplines from the biological or physical to the geological and physiological.

Online lessons - 1-2 hours.
In a typical session, I pick out questions on topics that the student finds difficult - whether selected by myself or by the student and go through the logic of the question stage by stage. I would ask the student to talk through the parts they do understand and we would work from there to fill in any gaps or misunderstandings as we progress through the questions. I would encourage students to write down any questions they have and we can work through them together - this also allows me to plan future sessions as it informs me of topics that need covering.
I like to keep things reasonably informal and welcome questions as we go through - curiosity is always appreciated!
I believe the best way to get to grips with a subject is to try and pull apart the topics and learn how things fit together, rather than just rote learning formulas or exam answers. I believe that encouraging and supporting students towards coming up with the solutions themselves is the most effective way for them to improve
