About Selen
Hi there, I’m Selen. I’m 21 years of age and I grew up in Hackney, where I completed my GCSEs and A Levels. I achieved 8A*’s and 3A’s at GCSE, including 9’s in English and Maths. I then went onto do A Levels in Chemistry, Maths, and Economics achieving A*A*A*. After completing my A Levels, I applied to study Chemistry, receiving all five offers: University of Oxford, Imperial College, UCL, King’s College and QMUL. I did my Chemistry undergraduate at the University of Oxford, and will also be doing my Masters at the University of Oxford. Throughout my years of tutoring, I believe I’ve developed competency through tutoring a variety of different students at different capabilities. I start my lessons by talking to students, asking about what they find difficult about a topic. This indicates areas I need to focus on specifically to satisfy the students' understanding of the topic. From this, I work through content and ask exam questions, focussing on specification points for different exam boards. This means that my teaching will be personalised to the exam boards and the student. I supplement my PowerPoints with exam questions and I go through my PowerPoints using my iPad and write around the PowerPoint, explaining specific points and talking through diagrams/concepts. This allows for students to have a more detailed and in-depth understanding of topics.
