About Tom
I am an honours student at the University of St Andrews, studying Chemistry. I understand that some people may not enjoy the sciences, but I endeavour to inspire these people. Failing that, I have recently been through the current education system, therefore I know how to harvest as many marks as possible, in the easiest ways for Biology and Chemistry GCSE & A level. I am currently set to get a 1st, and I intend on reading medicine in America after graduation. This highlights my enthusiasm for both Biology and Chemistry.
I have tutored before up in St Andrews and have been tutored in Kent, so I already understand what makes an understanding and engaging tutor. Moreover, being in the OTC (Officer Training Corps) at University I have faced many challenges in explaining orders in an eloquent yet concise manner. Furthermore; discipline, respect and integrity are held in high esteem and I uphold these values at all times.
As I have mentioned, I understand how the education and exam systems work. Thus I am able to go through the syllabus for any exam board, highlighting and explaining each and every specific point which will gain you marks. Alternatively I could go through a little less hastily, explaining where to get all the marks but also with context behind each of the points, ideally giving you a broader knowledge of Biology of Chemistry which would be essential if you plan to go into either of these at university.
Even though every concept in either of these subjects up to A-level is relatively simple for me to explain, work will be required in digesting the sheer bulk of the content. Nonetheless, it is much easier to regurgitate such a volume of knowledge in an exam when someone can concisely point out which parts are useful and which are not in advance.

Mr Hess is a very intelligent, patient and understanding tutor who made me feel not only confident in chemistry but also excited about the subject itself and eager to learn more.
