About Lila
I am an experienced Chess tutor with 17 years of teaching students from school to college levels. Over the years, I have successfully guided around 200 students, helping them improve their skills, confidence, and love for the game. My teaching philosophy is centered on patience, clarity, and practical learning. I believe that understanding concepts deeply is more important than memorizing moves, and I focus on developing both strategic thinking and problem-solving skills in my students.
I tailor my lessons to each student’s level and goals, ensuring that beginners feel supported while advanced learners are challenged to excel. My approach combines explaining theory, analyzing games, practicing tactics, and playing real-game scenarios to make learning both effective and engaging. I also encourage students to reflect on their decisions, learn from mistakes, and develop their own style of play.
Beyond Chess, I introduce students to related games like backgammon, checkers, Risk, and Settlers of Catan to strengthen logical thinking, planning, and adaptability. My students have achieved significant improvements in school and college competitions, with many gaining confidence in both strategy and decision-making.
I am committed to creating a supportive and motivating environment where every student can enjoy learning, grow their skills, and develop a lifelong passion for Chess. I aim to make each lesson fun, interactive, and rewarding while helping students achieve their personal goals in the game.

My approach to teaching Chess is centered on building both skill and confidence in every student. I focus on developing strong fundamentals, including tactics, strategy, openings, middle-game planning, and endgame techniques. I also teach related subjects such as backgammon, checkers, Risk, and Settlers of Catan, helping students strengthen their logical thinking, pattern recognition, and strategic planning across games.
I believe in a tutoring style that combines compassion, clear communication, creativity, and accountability. I start by understanding each student’s strengths, challenges, and learning goals. Lessons are personalized to match their pace and style, making sure they feel supported while being challenged to grow.
I use practical examples, puzzles, and real-game scenarios to make learning engaging. Students are encouraged to analyze moves, explore alternatives, and reflect on outcomes, which helps them think critically and make better decisions under pressure. Creativity is nurtured by allowing students to experiment with different strategies and play styles while learning from mistakes in a safe environment.
Accountability is emphasized by setting clear goals and tracking progress over time. I provide constructive feedback after each session and encourage self-assessment so that students can take ownership of their learning journey.
