About Joana
I hold a BA in Chinese Studies, took advanced-level language classes at Beijing Language and Culture University for two years, plus a summer course in Chinese-English translation at National Taiwan University.
I am a non-native speaker, but have extensive formal learning experience and can relate to common difficulties experienced by Western learners of Chinese. I also have ample experience in tutoring other languages.
I'm familiar with a range of learning materials, so if you don't have your own or would like to try others, we'll figure something out!

My experience in tutoring has usually been to assist students with whatever materials or assignments they're having issues with. That said, my favorite way of helping them connect with the language on a personal level is to expose them to popular culture, i.e. music, films and literature they might enjoy, and use it as a basis for study.
I have a very international background and speak five languages, which I think makes me a very adaptable person to different students' difficulties and needs. I hope to be able to help them not only become more confident speakers, but also be more acquainted with the culture.
I love learning and teaching languages and hope you will too!
