About Jason
I am an American fine artist from Chicago. In 2019 I moved to Scotland with my wife (who is Scottish). I keep a studio in Merchant City, Glasgow, where I enjoy teaching and making work for galleries. I love discipline based activities. I sing and play guitar, and have a Black belt in Tae Kwon Do. I also have a “pretend” black belt in cooking and mixology. I’m very devoted to craft and refinement! This journey in refining my skills as a “lifelong student” has led me to study traditional art at the Glasgow Academy of Fine Art, where I have recently graduated in June of 2024. I believe that teaching completes the lifecycle of this discipline. In this, a culture of growth can be nurtured and recycled, serving the student, teacher, and community that I am proud to be a part of!

I love process and clarity. As a person who prefers straightforwardness in my own studies and pursuits, I work to design a learning language that makes sense for my students. I will teach you how to develop an instinct and selective eye for constructing form in stages, starting simply, then building in complexity. This approach will work for many subjects, including the portrait and figure, landscapes, and still life. So there is lots for you to explore and enjoy. As you need, we will discuss theory and materials in great depth, preparing you to embrace the subject and medium of your choice with confidence. All levels of experience are welcome.

Had the pleasure of taking an entry level oil painting class with Jason some years ago and still use the lessons I learned about color and light sources. He’s a wonderfully patient teacher with a great way of communicating complex color theory.
I’ve known Jasson for 5 years. He is a professional artist, and a fantastic teacher. Jason ‘s artistic sensitivity makes him very intuitive. This allow him to build an immediate rapport with the students. He has a special touch to guide the talent of the students with easy and precise detailed instruction. He has been my best art tutor.

His Portrait Class was absolutely outstanding! His instructions on color mixing with Oil Paint were clear and concise. Gifted, knowledgeable and patient, Jason gave time to everyone in our group. I’ve purchased several of his beautiful paintings and a pencil sketch that I will treasure always! I’d love to take a Watercolor class sometime soon.
I took a public painting class with Jason several years ago; I’m by no means a natural artist, and Jason walked me through the process patiently and encouraged me. I learned a ton and had fun while developing a new skill.
Jason was my art instructor several years ago when I was taking classes at Insight Fine Art Studio. He was by far my favorite teacher at the studio. He was always encouraging, engaging, and made every class so enjoyable. He helped me to improve my drawing skills especially, by showing me how to use the materials as a beginner and visualize the art I was trying to make. I highly recommend Jason as an art instructor!!
Where do I begin? I took painting lessons with Jason for almost a year. His knowledge in painting is first rate. Jason knows when to instinctively give guidance and when to pull back and let you paint. I still her his voice when I paint. I can call myself a painter because of Jason. ️
