About Danai
I have a BA and an MA in U.S. History and I am a certified high school social studies teacher in Florida and North Carolina. I currently teach in Asheville, NC and taught AP U.S. History, AP Macroeconomics, and AP U.S. Government and Politics at the # 3 nationally-ranked public high school in the U.S. by U.S. News and World Report. In 2023, I was a finalist for South Region Teacher of the Year in Miami-Dade County, the third largest school district in the country. I love teaching and I love the classroom -- but most of all, I love working with students one-on-one. I have been tutoring in the social studies for over 10 years.

I have worked in a variety of high school educational environments -- from schools where 90% of students receive free or reduced lunch, are first generation Americans, and are first in their family to go to college; to schools where most students have a lot of family resources and support and are Ivy-bound. The variety of my experience helps me evaluate each of my student's needs, including the students I tutor. All of my tutoring sessions begin with an informal evaluation -- content and skill strengths and weaknesses, but also an evaluation of the type of learner each student is. I pride myself in being thorough yet efficient in my sessions, honing in on and building on each student's strengths to foster growth in areas in need of improvement through content review and lots of applied practice. Relationships are important to me -- I am as invested in the growth of my tutoring students as much as I am invested in the growth of my own students. We celebrate wins and gains and regroup when there have been losses. In every subsequent session, we review what we have learned and move on to new challenges, always keeping course objectives and upcoming assessments in the forefront of our sessions.
