About Joan Alaine
I've spent more than 25 years walking alongside students — as a counselor, psychometrician, educator, and student affairs leader in universities across the Philippines, Singapore, and the UAE. I hold dual master's degrees in Psychology and Guidance & Counseling, and I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor. Today I work in student life at an International University where I mentor student leaders, guide new students through their transition to university, and support young people through the challenges of academic life.
Learning is never just about content — it's about confidence, clarity, and believing you're capable of more than you think.
*Why I Teach*
Because I've seen what happens when a student finally gets it — not just the lesson, but themselves. In 25 years, my favorite moments have never been the ceremonies or the titles. They've been the quiet breakthroughs: the anxious student who walks into an exam calm because she finally has a study system that works, the young man who discovers that psychology isn't hard, he was just never taught in a way that made sense to him, the graduate who lands her first job because someone helped her tell her story well.
I teach because every student deserves someone in their corner who is both skilled and genuinely invested. My background in counseling means I don't just teach the subject — I understand the fear, procrastination, and self-doubt that often sit between a student and their potential, and I know how to work through them.

I offer one-on-one and small group sessions in Psychology (high school and university level), Counseling coursework, Study Skills & Exam Preparation, Academic English, and Career & University Application Coaching. Sessions are available online.
Each lesson is structured around your goals: we start with a quick assessment of where you are, build a clear plan, and track progress every session. My students don't just memorize — they learn how to study, write, and think more effectively, skills that carry into every subject.
*About me*
I am a Professional Coach and Counselor and Psychometrician with dual master's degrees in Psychology and Guidance & Counseling, and more than 25 years of experience in universities across the UAE, Singapore, and the Philippines. I currently work in student affairs at an American-curriculum university in the UAE, where I mentor student leaders and support students through their academic journey daily.
I'm warm, patient, and structured — students tell me they leave sessions feeling clearer and more confident. Whether you're struggling with a psychology course, preparing for exams, improving your English, or figuring out your career direction, I'd be glad to help you get there.
