About Abigail
Hi, I’m Abigail! I’m a Communications major at the college level, and American Sign Language has been an important part of my interest in communication. I studied ASL for three years in high school and have continued studying it at the college level. Studying both communication and ASL has made me especially interested in the different ways people connect, express themselves, and build understanding through language.
I know that learning ASL can feel intimidating, especially when you are learning a visual language for the first time or trying to keep up with a college course. As a tutor, I want to make that process feel approachable and encouraging. My goal is not just to help students memorize signs, but to help them feel more comfortable actually communicating with them.
I’m especially interested in working with beginners and students taking ASL 1 who want additional practice outside of class. Whether you need help with vocabulary, fingerspelling, basic conversations, or simply want a patient person to practice with, I want to create a comfortable environment where you can learn, make mistakes, and build confidence. As someone studying communication myself, I genuinely enjoy helping people find ways to communicate more confidently and effectively.

Lessons are personalized around each student's goals, current coursework, and areas where they need the most practice. A typical session may begin with a brief review of previous material before moving into vocabulary, fingerspelling, numbers, sentence structure, or conversational signing.
If you're taking an ASL course, we can also work directly with material you're learning in class. I can help you prepare for assignments, quizzes, or conversations by breaking down concepts and giving you opportunities to practice them rather than simply providing answers.
Depending on your needs, lessons may include:
Beginner vocabulary and signs
Fingerspelling and numbers
Basic sentence structure
Conversational practice
Reviewing ASL 1 course material
Guided practice for assignments or quizzes
Deaf culture concepts covered in introductory courses
