About Markita
I hold an MFA in Creative Nonfiction Writing from NYU. I also earned my BA at NYU, where I double majored in Global Liberal Studies (in the Politics, Rights, and Development concentration) and Spanish, and minored in Creative Writing, and where I was honored to be chosen Valedictorian of Liberal Studies.
I have more than four years of experience teaching undergraduate composition, rhetoric, research, and creative writing at exceptional universities, including New York University (NYU), Rutgers University-Newark, and the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT).
My experience as an SAT and ACT tutor with Compass Education Group has given me an inside look at the rigorous preparation that goes into college admissions. In addition to standardized test tutoring, I teach personal statement writing workshops at Rutgers Future Scholars, a pre-college program for high-achieving high school students in the Newark, New Jersey area.

Leveraging my extensive experience as a writer and educator, I help students craft college essays that showcase the qualities that make them unique—qualities that transcripts and test scores often fail to capture. In addition to college essay coaching, I offer personalized study skills tutoring, academic coaching, and writing support. I am available for the occasional check-in or ongoing meetings that help students build strong habits and stay on top of all their academic responsibilities and goals.
