About Madeleine
Hi! I'm Madeleine. I am so excited to connect with students like you to inspire confidence in your English learning. I received a BA with honors in English literature at Kenyon College, and have 5+ years of teaching experience. My favorite teaching moments are the times when something clicks. Say you've been struggling with a pesky grammar rule for some time, and suddenly, you use a new tool and it all comes together. In that moment, you feel confident, empowered, and committed to ongoing learning. The learning possibilities are endless! Reading, writing and teaching are three of my favorite activities in the world, so I'm excited to combine the three and help you improve your English reading, writing, vocabulary and grammar skills!

I enjoy using a student-centered approach to learning, by allowing my students to choose topics that interest them and designing lesson plans from there. For example, if my student loves dogs, we will practice grammar and vocabulary by writing and reading stories about dogs! I value my student's input in the lessons, because I believe it cultivates engagement and leads students to remember material. Of course, I will take a kind but firm approach to facilitate the lessons and lay a groundwork for correct behavior.
My years of experience and kind but firm approach set me apart as a tutor. I worked for a year in a classroom with City Year Denver as a Math teaching assistant, but English has always been my academic passion. Before that, I worked at a summer school as a teaching assistant in English, Spanish and Drama classes for four summers. I have a strong ability to connect with students, and have excelled in encouraging my students to keep going or try new approaches when they feel stuck.
I have experience working with students from elementary to high school levels.
