I am a student at Simon Fraser University, I am doing my undergraduate degree in Communication and Business. I have given private tuitions back home for one year. My methodology depends on the student’s needs and learning style. However my teaching style is based on motivating students to think for themselves, using everyday examples wherever possible. I start from topics the students are comfortable with and shift slowly towards more complex areas as they start understanding. To build student’s confidence I try alternation technique where I allow them to teach me what they know, as the field of communication involves a lot of research essays and exams, this gives the students a chance to explain things in a thorough and reasonable way. I continually ask them questions related to the topic to check their understanding. I don’t ask the students to memorize things. I don’t do their schoolwork for them. Yet, I assist them with understanding the problems.
