About John
Over the last 8 years, I have had the joy of teaching guitar to students from schools and colleges, helping them discover the joy and power of music. My teaching style centers on recognizing each student’s individuality—their musical interests, strengths, and challenges—and customizing lessons to foster growth in a way that is enjoyable and effective. I combine practical skill-building, such as mastering chords, finger exercises, and rhythm, with music theory and creative work like songwriting and improvisation. This comprehensive approach ensures students become well-rounded musicians capable of expressing themselves fully through their instrument. A particularly memorable experience was guiding a group of students from learning the basics to forming a band that performed at several local festivals, boosting their confidence and teamwork skills immensely. I believe the guitar is not just an instrument but a tool for personal development, helping students cultivate focus, discipline, creativity, and emotional expression. My goal is to create a warm, patient, and motivating learning space where students feel supported as they embark on their musical journeys, making every lesson meaningful and fun.

I teach Guitar as a balance between structure and freedom — the structure gives you tools, and the freedom lets you make something personal out of them. That balance looks different for everyone, so I customize lessons based on who you are and what excites you musically.
We start with your favorite songs or styles and use them as a launchpad for everything else: chord technique, rhythm, musical expression, and even basic theory. I make sure every part of the lesson ties back to music you care about, so it never feels disconnected or dry.
Motivation is key, and I work hard to keep it alive by making progress feel real and consistent. Whether it’s mastering a tricky passage or just feeling more comfortable holding the instrument, I make sure you notice your own growth. And when things get hard, we don’t give up — we slow down, experiment, and solve problems together. I guide you through the challenges so you understand the “why,” not just the “how.” I teach with honesty and care. My feedback is always meant to help you grow, not compare you to others or push you beyond your comfort zone.
You’ll know where you stand and where we’re going, in an environment that’s respectful and supportive. Flexibility is part of every lesson. I switch up explanations, use visuals, sounds, and patterns — whatever helps you absorb the material best. Beyond Guitar technique, I offer guidance in songwriting, improvisation, creative habits, and stage presence. Whether you’re a hobbyist or future performer.
