About Joseph
Hello!
I am a qualified and experienced tutor, editor, and practising writer based in London. Having tutored English Literature and Language on the platform MyTutor throughout my studies, I am now accepting new students for one-to-one tutoring sessions at GCSE, A-Level, and undergraduate level. I myself hold an MA in Creative Writing from Royal Holloway and a BA in English Literature and Creative Writing from the University of Warwick. I also have an advanced DBS check and experience working with neurodivergent students.
Alongside applying to PhD programmes, I currently volunteer as Editor-in-Chief of an independent poetry magazine in my spare time. I have had my own poetry published in a number of online and print publications. Outside of my studies, I am a traveller (most recently to Japan, Vietnam, and Denmark), avid runner, and a lover of all things food and cooking.
Unsurprisingly, I am a big literature and media nerd, and, though it sounds a bit uncool, I love academia, literary theory and critical studies. I also have a serious passion for essay writing and, of course, teaching; I particularly enjoy helping students transition to higher education, helping with the jump in difficulty from GCSE to A-Level, and then from A-Level to undergraduate studies.

I offer one-to-one lessons and tutoring plans in GCSE, A-Level, and undergraduate English Literature and Creative Writing. My lessons are heavily reliant on my tutee's unique needs and goals, and I aim to devise my lesson plans based on our initial consultation.
Key areas of specialisation include: essay writing skills, essay structuring and planning, creative/fiction writing, and text comprehension.
Being a recent MA graduate, I have a lot of relevant and applicable experience in English studies. I hope to be an approachable and friendly face to my students. I consider my lessons to be collaborative, conversational, and targeted, and I shy away from old-fashioned methods and generalisations; I believe students' needs are personal, and as such, my tutoring approaches are flexible.
