About Lauren
I have a degree in Arabic language and literature (Edinburgh University; First Class with Distinction), and a Masters in Cultural Studies (School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London; Distinction) and I am currently writing up my PhD in Contemporary Syrian Art (School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, but based in Inverness). I have extended experience in proof-reading and editing, both in a private capacity and through work in the publishing industry. I also have experience teaching undergraduate and post-graduate courses, as well as some experience working with primary school age children on an informal basis. I am happy to teach literature, writing skills, critical enquiry, history, modern studies, human geography, and basic Arabic language. I would also be happy to be approached about other humanities subjects or related fields.

I base my lessons around my students' needs and am happy to work with any age or background of learner. As an advocate of independent critical enquiry, I prioritise self-led discovery in students and seek to encourage existing skills as well as fostering relevant new ones in matters of research and academic delivery. My preference is to work with texts where possible (not necessarily just written texts but using a variety of media) and to design plans around the students' existing interests where possible. Whilst I enjoy creating my own lesson plans, I am also happy offering proof-reading services, exam preparation and specific tuition in writing skills.
