About Salimatu
I am currently studying law at Anglia Ruskin University. Not only do I love English literature but I also have international and UK-recognised qualifications. I graduated GCSE with a grade 9 in English Literature and The International Baccalaureate (IB) with a grade 7 (the highest scores possible). I was granted admission into the university to study law with two Scholarships of excellence. My analytical and critical thinking skills garnered from the English language and literature propelled me to get into a prestigious university to study Law. I have a genuine love for literature because it is a fluid that seeps through the cracks of any form of creativity, from the classics, Shakespeare, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle to song lyrics etc. Literature is everywhere! International Baccalaureate granted vast freedom to apply literature in every aspect of writing (popular songs, articles, movies). I even did my Internal oral assessment on the Lemonade album by Beyoncé and Bob Dylan where my line of inquiry was "To what extent has the corruption of power perpetuated human suffering". I also analysed works from BTS, Dave and Jorja Smith. My love for literature only expanded and continues to.

The length of lessons varies depending on the types of work being studied: - Poetry (annotating and analysing a poem)- 40 minutes - Planning an academic essay- 30-40 minutes - Comparative literature and analysis (comparing two literary works and writing an analysis based on a guiding question)- 1 hour - Single analysis of an unseen work (Usually in IB Paper 1 English language and literature)- 1hr My technique uses elements of active learning strategies specifically prompting and problem-based learning. So, lessons would often begin with a discussion whereby I introduce the topic and ask students what they know so far, and how they would approach particular exam or coursework-style questions then I would go through the work with the specification of any required exam boards whilst entertaining student inputs. Finally, the students will have a "practice session" to apply the skills (analysing, annotating etc) on their own then together we will review their attempts. This is for constructing an analysis of any written work. In understanding the CONTENT for example of a poem, I will use song lyrics students are familiar with as a comparison with the poem so they have better retention of the key aspects of the topic. This is something the IB even requires and for non-IB students, it would also be beneficial. For example, it would help the students better retain the information of exploring social issues in literature if they discovered it in songs they listen to.

She’s always on time. Very enthusiastic and patient.
When I get was struggling with my final English GCSE exam, Miss Salimatu, went over past papers with me until my writing structure was perfected and also she created acronyms for me to use when remembering key terms in my exam. Due to this, I ended up with a 7 (A) in English Language and a 6 (B) in English literature when I began from a 4 (D). If anyone is struggling with English, I truly recommend her because she is the best!
Salimatu is a very nice and patient tutor. She teaches in a way that’s very understandable, and takes her time with each student.
