About Ashley
Hello! As a third year medical student who has experience teaching and tutoring math course at the middle school and high school levels, I look forward to working with students to assist in clarifying concepts that may not be making sense or simply require further refinement of understanding.
While most of my teaching experience is in math courses, I also have experience as a teaching assistant for Anatomy and Physiology at the college level and have a thorough understanding of basic science courses, which serve as the foundation for my current medical school coursework. I use the same methods in tutoring students as I have used successfully in my own studying.

Teaching style involves an emphasis on practice problems with reflection on both correct and incorrect answers, leading to further instruction on areas needing clarification.
A typical lesson is usually based on the chapter of the course’s textbook that is relevant, with questions taken from the book or a secondary resource to both test the student’s understanding and explore unclear concepts more fully.
If a concept is not making sense, we take a step back with a mini lecture/explanation being given followed by the student explaining their understanding in their own words. We then attempt another similar problem so the student may utilize their new understanding in approaching the question.
I’ve found that for most students applying the information is the best way to see the relevance of the material, leading to them retaining more information for a longer period.
I have utilized this method in my own learning in medical school, which has lead to high marks on the vast majority of my examinations.
My experience lies in teaching/tutoring math courses at the middle school and high school levels, excluding calculus.
As a medical student I have significant experience and knowledge with science course and material, from basic sciences to Anatomy and Physiology at the college level. As a former teaching assistant for Anatomy and Physiology, I have a particular enjoyment and excitement for tutoring those concepts!
