About Dylan
I am the former principal cellist of the award-winning Denver School of the Arts Advanced Orchestra and I am currently pursuing a B.M. in cello performance and composition at the University of Denver under the instruction of Matthew Zalkind, Alice Yoo, Leanna Kirchoff, and Sean Friar. I have participated in masterclasses led by artists Lynn Harrell, Mike Block, Richard Aaron, Julie Albers, Kirsten Doctor, and ensembles such as the Calidore String Quartet, the Miro String Quartet, and the Cavani String Quartet to name a few. As a soloist, I have been invited by various ensembles to perform works including Korngold’s Cello Concerto, Schnittke’s Triple Concerto, Faure’s Elegie, Pierce’s The All-Night Vigil of Rabi’a al-Adawiyya, Dvorak's Cello Concerto in b minor, Vivaldi’s Double Cello Concerto in g minor, and Herbert’s Cello Concerto No. 2 in e minor. Avid as a chamber musician, I was a founding member of the DSA string quartet and am consistently performing chamber music on a regular basis. Not only do I have training in classical music, but I also have training in alternative styles such as rock, jazz, pop, and more. Currently, I am a member of the rock cello/piano cover duo titled Duality. Active as a composer and arranger from age 12, I received the top prize in the 2015 Telum Lucrietti Chamber Music Composition Competition. I have placed in various competitions including Michael Giacchino’s War for the Planet of the Apes Orchestration Competition in 2017. In 2019, I was commissioned by the director of the Denver School of the Arts to arrange the B side of The Beatles album Abbey Road for string orchestra, harp, and percussion. Most recently, I was a finalist in the 2021 ASCAP Foundation Morton Gould Young Composer Awards with my piece "Murmuration" for flute, violin, and piano.

Generally, I am an understanding, kind teacher that wants to explore the cello or composition with another person at any level- of course, I do expect that the student will come with some objective or work to show with each lesson. As a teacher, I am easy-going and flexible about what (and how much) repertoire we explore whether that be just classical, or a variety of multiple styles. My goal is to create an environment that will not only give you tools to explore music in the capacity that you want to, but an environment that will also be fun and encouraging.

Dylan is a wonderful teacher. He is very thorough and patient. As a beginner student, he is able to help me with exactly what I needed to start to playing. I enjoy every lesson, and highly recommend him as a cello teacher.
Dylan Tyree is dedicated and deeply passionate about music and it shows in everything he does. He has a fun and outgoing personality which not only makes him a great individual but also helps him connect with the students and teach in a way that helps the students understand the material better. I’m his composition class, he used well known songs/pieces to break down different lines, melodies, harmonies, and rhythms.
