About Allen
Following my career as an IT (Information Technology) project manager w/ USPS, my family and I moved to Hohhot, China in 2001 where I taught Business English. In 2003, we accepted teaching positions in Beijing where I taught English at Beijing Law and Politics University. In 2006, we moved to Xi'an, China where my wife, Shelly, and I both served as instructors. In 2012, having adopted a 2nd daughter (special needs), we felt our kids' needs would be best served at a school offering education options tailored to their needs. For this reason, in 2013 we interviewed with an American school in Taiwan. This led to our hire and move from Xi'an to Kaohsiung, Taiwan in July, 2014 where we remain today. With kids' graduation in May, our plan is to return to Raleigh NC (USA).

Having enjoyed Mandarin study for many years, I feel that learning another language - whether for business or pleasure - should be fun! Thus, my approach to teaching is to combine the (necessary) rigor of language exercises with the pleasure of conversation tailored to the student's level of English competence. Though I have experience teaching at all competence levels, I feel my teaching methodology is best suited for Intermediate to Advanced English language students.
