About Joanne
Hello! My name is Jo, and I am a committed Wits Medical School student with a genuine passion for teaching English and helping students grow in confidence and ability. Through years of tutoring learners across various grades, I have developed a calm, structured, and supportive approach that allows students to feel comfortable, understood, and motivated. I specialize in English from primary school through to matric, guiding students in writing, comprehension, grammar, and literature. My medical studies have strengthened my communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to explain complex concepts in simple, relatable ways. This helps me create lessons that are not only informative but truly empowering. Professionalism is extremely important to me. I arrive prepared, organized, and ready to adapt my lessons to each student’s individual needs. My approach to English tutoring is centred around clarity, engagement, and building confidence in every student. I focus on understanding each learner’s strengths, weaknesses, and learning style, then adapt my teaching to meet their specific needs. What makes me unique as a tutor is my ability to simplify complex writing and language concepts while helping students develop strong analytical and communication skills that extend beyond the classroom.
I am proficient in English and teach exclusively in English to ensure students build strong language foundations. My lessons are interactive and structured: we review key concepts, practise through guided exercises, and work through examples together. I also incorporate feedback sessions, exam-style questions, and personalised strategies to help students improve both their writing and comprehension.
