About Mekaela
Hello, my name is Mekaela. I’m an experienced tutor and research professional with a strong academic background in Politics, Law, and Human Rights. I hold a BA (Hons) in Politics from SOAS, University of London, and an LLM in Legal Practice and Human Rights (Distinction). I currently work in a NGO supporting academic teams and institutions, and I also serve as an External Trustee at a UK university.
Alongside my professional experience, I’ve spent several years working closely with students at both school and university level, supporting them with exam preparation, essay writing, critical thinking, and confidence-building. My approach to tutoring is structured, practical, and encouraging. I tailor each session to the individual student’s needs, learning style, and goals — whether that’s improving grades, strengthening academic writing, or preparing for exams or university applications.
I place a strong emphasis on helping students understand how to learn, not just what to learn. This includes developing effective study techniques, improving argument structure, strengthening analytical skills, and building confidence in expressing ideas clearly and persuasively. My sessions are supportive and engaging, and while I take academic progress seriously, I also believe learning works best in a relaxed, positive environment.
During my time at SOAS, I studied a wide range of modules including political theory, international relations, global history, and human rights, and I bring this interdisciplinary perspective into my tutoring. I’m particularly well suited to supporting students in Politics, Law, Philosophy, Religious Studies, and related humanities subjects.
I’m based in South West London and am happy to tutor students in the area or online. I offer:
* GCSE and A-level tutoring
*English
*Tutoring University-level essay support and proofreading
* Exam preparation and study skills coaching
* University application and personal statement support
If you’d like to discuss how I can support you or your child, please feel free to get in touch — I’d be happy to help.

My teaching approach is structured, supportive, and highly personalised. I have experience supporting secondary school students (GCSE and A-level) as well as university-level students, and I tailor each lesson to the student’s age, ability, and academic goals. At the start of our work together, I take time to understand the student’s current level, curriculum requirements, and any specific challenges they face — including where English is not their first language.
For students whose first language isn’t English, I focus on building confidence in academic English alongside subject knowledge. I break down complex texts, exam questions, and key terminology into clear, accessible language, and help students develop strong reading comprehension, written expression, and essay structure. This approach is particularly effective for secondary school students preparing for GCSEs or A-levels, where clarity and exam technique are essential.
A typical lesson begins with a brief recap of previous work and identification of areas that need strengthening. We then focus on the main objective of the session, such as exam preparation, essay planning, text analysis, or developing core study skills. I use structured explanations, guided practice, and worked examples to reinforce understanding, adapting the pace and level to suit the student.
I place strong emphasis on exam preparation and technique, helping students understand how to interpret questions, plan answers effectively, and manage time under exam conditions. For written work, I provide clear, constructive feedback and explain how improvements can be applied independently in future assignments.
My lessons are calm, encouraging, and interactive. I aim to create a positive learning environment where students — particularly younger learners — feel comfortable asking questions and building confidence. While sessions are focused and goal-oriented, I also ensure they are engaging and supportive.
Ultimately, my goal is to help students achieve measurable academic progress while developing the confidence, skills, and independence they need to succeed at school, in exams, and beyond.

Mekaela is the kind of educator who doesn’t just teach, she steadies people.
Born and raised in England, she brings a calm, grounded confidence you feel immediately, clear communication, high standards, and a deep respect for every student’s voice. It’s not confidence as a slogan with her, it’s a skill she builds in others, step by step. Students walk into her space unsure, second guessing themselves, and leave feeling more capable, more articulate, and more willing to try again. She has a way of making people feel safe enough to be brave.
What makes Mekaela especially effective is that her support is backed by serious substance. With a master’s degree in Politics and Law, she understands how power, systems, and real world decision making work, and she translates that into lessons that sharpen how students think, speak, and advocate for themselves. She doesn’t simply encourage students, she shows them how to structure an argument, how to defend an idea with evidence, how to stay composed under pressure, and how to communicate with impact. Those are lifelong skills, and she teaches them naturally.
Mekaela’s feedback is one of her greatest strengths, honest but never harsh, specific but never overwhelming. She’s the rare person who can challenge students without intimidating them. She notices what’s already strong, names it out loud, and then helps students expand it, so their growth feels achievable, not exhausting. Even students who usually shrink back start speaking up, because she meets them with patience and expectations in equal measure.
If you’re looking for someone who can genuinely help students build confidence, real confidence rooted in preparation, clarity, and self belief, Mekaela is exceptional. She brings intelligence, professionalism, and warmth, and students don’t just learn from her, they start trusting themselves more because of her.Mekaela tutored my daughter when we moved to England!!
