About BKM
I'm Biplab, a watercolor artist, drawing tutor, and fine art educator based in Bangalore. I hold a degree in Digital Media and a certification in Fine Art, and I've been teaching professionally since 2009 — 16 years of hands-on experience working with students of every age and level, from young children to adults, complete beginners to those preparing for art college or a career in animation and design.
I'm the founder of BKM Art Classes (BKM Artopia), where I built a complete curriculum around the elements and principles of art and design. Alongside teaching, I work as a Creative Director with 12+ years of professional experience, which keeps the standards I teach grounded in real, working practice rather than just theory.
My teaching is built on one core idea: once you understand the fundamentals, you can draw anything. Every class starts with observation — training the eye to really see shapes, proportion, and light — followed by my signature shape-first method, where any complex object is broken down into simple shapes like triangles, rectangles, and circles. From there, I layer in perspective, light and shadow, composition, and color, including watercolor impressionism and both additive (layering) and subtractive (lifting) techniques.
I explain ideas through relatable, everyday analogies — like comparing shadow direction to a clock face — so concepts click quickly, and I balance genuine encouragement with honest, specific feedback so students see real progress in every session, not just theory.

My art classes are built around one core idea: once you understand the fundamentals, you can draw anything. I teach students of all levels — complete beginners to advanced — across all mediums of interest, including drawing, sketching, and watercolor painting.
Every class starts with the fundamentals: strong observation techniques that train the eye to really see proportion, form, and light, not just look at them. From there, I teach my signature shape-first approach — breaking down any complex object into simple, basic shapes like triangles, rectangles, and circles. A house isn't drawn as "a house," it's a triangle balanced on a rectangle with a few small squares — and the illusion appears almost on its own. Once students master this, they can apply the same thinking to draw literally anything and everything, from everyday objects to complex scenes, because the underlying skill of shape-breakdown never changes.
From this foundation, I build in perspective, light and shadow, composition, and color, adapting the depth and pace to each student's level and chosen medium — whether that's pencil sketching, drawing, or watercolor.
